Match Report:
Repton gained a place in the semi-finals of the ISFA Cup with a hard-fought victory over an excellent Eton side. Eton started quicker and were a goal up inside the first five minutes after a brilliant save by Congiu unluckily fell at the feet of an onrushing striker. Repton then began to get into their stride but by half-time the equaliser had not materialised, with the Eton goalkeeper in fine form, pulling off a string of great saves, and the centre-half proving to be rock in the heart of the defence.
Repton continued to play the better football at the start of the second half and finally the pressure told. Hughes picked up the ball outside the area and went round several Eton players before slotting the ball low past the keeper's right hand. A second goal quickly followed as Fenton found the target. Eton, however, rallied and with a little over ten minutes to go they found an equaliser as Repton's defence failed to clear a cross and the ball was struck low into the corner of the net from outside the area. Extra time seemed to be looming, but with three minutes to go Hughes picked up the ball on the left wing and went round four defenders before pulling the ball back across the goal mouth. A scramble ensued and the ball broke to the edge of the area where Martin met it and struck first time to send the ball past the mass of players between him and the goal. Any decorum that the Repton coach had left was lost as he raced up the touchline, arms aloft, cheering. The quarter final of the ISFA Cup had been won on the playing fields of Eton.
