Result: Repton 35 all out

Shrewsbury 36-4

Lost by 6 wickets.

This was a difficult fixture for the team who had set out with high aspirations.  Choosing to bat, the opening partnership of Shires and Ballantyne-Rowland managed to knock up only 5 runs before they were bowled by some very competent bowling by the Shrewsbury openers Hayward and Arnold.  A lack of patience and a wicked swing led to a succession of quick wickets, with Morris the only batsman to achieve double figures (11).  Five catches told the tale of the afternoon for Repton, who seemed too keen to make a big early impression.

All out for 35, it was always going to be difficult so it was heartening to see the boys go about fielding with some real passion.  Wickets for Long, Afoakwah and Morris (2) delayed the inevitable to 10 overs but it was for pride the boys were now playing.

On a note of interest, a second game was played,  taking advantage of the glorious weather on Hall Close.  The boys batted first and got an impressive 79 off 10 overs (Afoakwah 44).  Shrewsbury gave good chase but the Repton attack proved too strong on this occasion, with Shrewsbury making 77 off 10 overs.  Alas, this can be only a footnote!
