Match Report:
After an overcast morning, with some light rain, the sun came out and provided a pleasant temperature to watch a cricket match on Hall Close. Goodacre won the toss and elected to bat, whereupon he and Hibell dismantled the opposition's bowling attack in spectacular fashion (42 off 4, 90 off 8). Goodacre fell to a pull shot (hitting up rather than down), but Frost and Hibell continued in the same vein (129 off 12, 169 off 16, 203 off 20, 242 off 24) until Frost was well caught off a slower ball. This introduced Taft who set about the Wolverhampton bowlers scoring 25 in quick-time before he played on in the 29th over.
To chase a formidable total one has to have luck, luck, luck. The opposition's batsmen started carefully, but by the 10th over they were 40 for one wicket. After that it was a slow procession, an indictment on the so-called exciting limited-overs game, until the opposition's score subsided to a total that was a long way short of the desired total.
This was a performance that showed how much the team had improved since the dire performance against Rugby on the same square back in April.
