Result:
Repton 2-2 Thomas Alleynes
Match Report:
A draw was probably a fair result after a scrappy game played in windy conditions. Repton seemed to have a little more quality, with Ballantyne-Rowland showing some nice touches and Astin performing well in goal, but Alleynes worked harder around the pitch and retained a better shape. Repton scored a fine goal in the first-half when Binns' clever turn and pass put Ballantyne-Rowland through for a pinpoint finish but failed to build an advantage and paid the price as Alleynes equalised just after the break, exploiting some hesitant defending at a corner. The expected fightback did not materialise and we were fortunate to go in front once again after Sunner was left with space in the box after a corner was not properly cleared. Rather than push to make the game safe Repton became sloppy and failed to track the Alleynes midfielders as they pushed up in search of an equaliser. The equaliser did indeed materialise with a minute remaining and it all felt rather inevitable, unfortunately. Binns leaving the field and the adventurous formation that Alleynes finished the game with ought to have been dealt with but were not. This is the sort of game from which the boys can learn a great deal. They now need to rest and recuperate, ready to return fresh for Friday's cup match.
