Match Report:

Despite this being their first defeat of the year, I was delighted with the Repton performance in this game. Rugby were, without doubt, the best team we have encountered in our brief time together and they offered as stern a challenge as is available at this age group. The Repton team includes a great many players who lack decent hockey experience and yet they are all starting to play some effective hockey. Both teams passed the ball well and used the full width of the pitch, making for an attractive game to watch. James Shires was Repton’s most useful ball carrier as he made every effort to go wide and avoid the defender’s open stick. Also Robbie Astin was increasingly a handful as he made runs ahead of play and worked hard to regain possession. It was Astin that put Repton ahead but within minutes Rugby equalised and they then deserved to win the game albeit with two goals in the last five minutes. There were several pleasing aspects to this performance but I do think that the boys need to make an effort to attempt in matches the skills that they have mastered in training so that we can move on to the next stage in their development.
