Match Report:
I found this quite a frustrating performance. Repton were certainly the better team but were up against a well organised and athletic Kimbolton team. Unfortunately, some poor passing and a tendency to want to play down the middle of the pitch and into crowded areas made it a slightly less convincing and enjoyable win than it might have been. I think all the boys could improve in their willingness to try and get the ball outside their right foot when in possession, enabling them to pass right more easily. Also, we need to find greater width and to make lead runs that get higher up the pitch more quickly. However, this is perhaps a little pedantic as this is still only their fourth full game together and they are yet to lose but I do feel that, with the individual talent that they have, they should be capable of producing some very exciting hockey. Yesterday’s match did produce a few highlights; the goals from Hibell and Wilcox, some inventive moves from Shires and Taft on the right, a couple of good saves from Lee in goal and the usual composed performances from Nevill and Frost at the back. We will, however, need to be at our best on Tuesday when we are away at Rugby. SJC
