Match Report: Repton qualified for their first Midlands finals for several years at this age group after producing three solid performances in their zone round. The most important result on the day was the 2 – 0 win over Oakham. This was a very evenly contested game, with both teams missing chances. However, thanks to some very composed defending from James Frost and Ben Nevill, Oakham failed to find a way through and an excellent short corner strike from Robbie Astin sealed an important win. The second match was a repeat of Saturday’s fixture against Bromsgrove. If anything we were more in control of this match than the one at the weekend but somehow only managed to draw, thanks again to a fierce short corner strike from Astin. Naturally, it is not all about the goalscorers and I was particularly pleased with the performances of the captain Aaran Hibell and the increasingly influential James Shires. The 5 – 0 win in the final match against an inexperienced yet spirited Adams GS was a formality and resulted in Repton topping the group. This means that in the finals we are in a group with Solihull, Queen Mary’s GS and Nunnery Wood. This is to be played on Friday 19th March at Cannock HC starting at 9.30am. SJC
