Match Report:
Repton defended their title at Denstone this weekend, scoring 16 times for a total of 45 points in five games, and conceding just once. The squad of nine players cruised through the group stage, playing some slick, effective hockey along the way, with only Denstone providing any real resistance, thanks to their excellent goalkeeper who made a string of frustrating saves. This was to be the case in the final later on in the day. Watton and Reineke were particularly effective up front, the latter constantly harassing opposition defenders and scoring some superb goals himself. Ho Chan was a more than valuable replacement, and his goals, too, proved crucial as the day wore on. Twigg marshalled the team tirelessly while the defensive partnership of Williams and Markham, ably assisted by Dewis and Wood, ensured that we were miserly in defence. Attwood pulled off some great saves to keep a clean sheet for the day until the final, and therefore the team performance as a whole was most pleasing. The final was a real nail-biter, as Denstone scored early on the break, and our attacks thereafter were consistently, and frustratingly, thwarted by their keeper. Despite some high spirits towards the end of the game, few would have argued with the overall result of the day, such was the teams’ dominance throughout.
