Date: Saturday 12th June
Venue: Away, depart 9.20 am
Team: IKIN, JACQUES, MURRALL, COSFORD, FENTON, SANDERSON, BYAS, AHMED, HODSON-WALKER, ELDRED, MOORE
Result: WORKSOP 281-6, REPTON 220 (Ikin 62, Murrall 66). LOST BY 61 RUNS
Match Report: A disappointing loss but we were outplayed by an effective Worksop side. Once Ahmed took a wicket in the first over, there was little else to celebrate until Hodson-Walker stumped the other opener off Cosford 50 runs later. A sizeable partnership then followed, with a number of bowlers getting little reward and at lunch, Worksop were 120-2. The post lunch session was, by 1st XI standards very poor, with our standard some distance off our best. Following an excellent 141 from Worksop's number three, they declared at 281-6, with 2 wickets for Cosford and Jacques.
The initial stages of the batting was very positive and when Jacques departed for a brisk yet impressive 20, Ikin and Murrall batted excellently. Ikin fell caught and bowled for 62, Cosford struck a brief 32 but from that point not only was it much more difficult to score but we didn't manage to build any partnerships.
Two run outs left us 8 wickets down with 6 overs left and some distance from the total. With the draw as an option in this timed game, Eldred survived an over from their paceman before Murrall was given out caught off the off spinner. With one wicket left and 4 overs remaining to save the game, the win was out of reach but it came to a disappointing end when Moore's attempted lofted drive was comfortably held at mid off.
We still have 5 games remaining, having already played 11. We have still only lost 2 games so the aim will be to maintain this record as we round off the term in the next 3 weeks.
