Match Report: There are many different opinions about the place of timed cricket in school sport these days. This, in my opinion, did little to offer any support for the place of it in modern cricket. One team having 168 balls less than the other may not reflect a particularly balanced contest but this aside, Repton were disappointed not to win today.
There is no doubt that a target of just over 4 per over should have been possible on a slow, low pitch, but we fell just short, with our later stage batting falling at the final hurdles.
Our bowling throughout was tidy, as was our ground fielding, but 20 extras and some chances put down may have cost us 30 runs which would have made the chase much easier. Eddie Ikin (4-38) swung the ball and Matt Sanderson (1-31 of 19 overs) bowled good spells. Other wickets were shared between Cosford, Eldred and Ahmed. Matt Hodges, on 1st XI full debut, took two crucial wickets and broke the key partnership.
Murrall top scored with 55, making his run tally for ther week 180, but only Jacques (27) played well enough with him to put together a partnership that put us in a situation to win the game. Better strategies and processes will be needed tomorrow as we take on three schools in the 20/20 competition.
