Match Report: Repton 267-8 (50 overs) (Graham 77, Ikin 55) Uppingham 115 all out (Sanderson 4-13, Ikin 2-15)

It was a day to win the toss and bat, no doubt about that. Chris Murrall, having only lost one all year did exactly that and we put on 130 for the first wicket in the first 23 overs. Eddie Ikin was first out for a solid 55 but that started 13 overs of indifferent batting which allowed Uppingham briefly back in the game. They bowled well in this period but we selected some poor options, failing to realise how to continue to build on this excellent start. When Graham was third out caught and bowled for an excellent 77 from 95 balls, Cosford (36), Fenton and Jacques soon followed and we had to rebuild. Sanderson hit a brief 19 before being run out and Ahmed perished to a short ball.

At 220-8 with 8 overs left it could have gone either way but sensible batting from Eldred (17*) and Hodson-Walker (24*) saw us to 267-8 at the end of our 50 overs. A decent target on another great surface on The Square.

Ikin set the ball rolling on the second over with a caught and bowled, before Ahmed picked up the key wicket of Uppingham's number three who already has significant experience within the county 2nd XI game, to leave them 23-2. Although Uppingham maintained a run rate of 5 until over 13, a period of tight bowling from Ikin in his second spell, and Moore, tightened the screws and wickets fell at regular intervals. From 68-5, Uppingham closed on 115 all out, with 35 overs completed. Matt Sanderson swept through the lower order, taking 4-13, and all 6 bowlers took a wicket.

This was a professional performance and we recorded our 5th straight win over Uppingham at 1st XI level. With exams looming many of the boys will have limited cricket in the next few weeks until we take on Worksop College, away, after half term.

The first half of term has seen 14 games in all, includng 4 20/20 fixtures, a pre season tour and an ash cloud that extended our return. Just one loss in the longer format (50 over) games means we have done well so far this year, but we still have some challenges ahead of us in the second half of the year. Tom Cosford and Eddie Ikin lead the battting aggregates, with Ameer Ahmed and Matt Sanderson leading the way with wickets.
