Repton 6 - 3 Trent (Byas (PC), (PS), Dewis (F), Ho Chan (F), Watton (F), Rees-Jones (F))
Match Report: The first ten minutes were frantic and sloppy from the Repton boys. The fact that we had not had an outdoor training session this season could perhaps explain our poor structure and the number of basic errors that were made early in the game. Trent, on the other hand, were organised and quick on the break and they scored a deserved opener after a fast counter-attacking move. As the game progressed, Will Byas and Luke Samra were key in organising and controlling play. Will Byas scored from the penalty spot after a Trent player played the ball with the back of his stick and he quickly followed up with a short corner goal thanks to a goalkeeping error.
The second half saw further improvements as attacking moves were more controlled and more thoughtful. Huw Rees-Jones scored a good deflection, Leo Watton and Matt Dewis both picked up loose balls in the circle to finished well and Ricky Ho Chan produced a very unorthodox yet impressive strike to put the game safe. Declan Blackwood and Matt Dewis were solid performers at the back and Jeremy Williams had made an excellent start to his Repton hockey career.
As a starting point, this performance was fine but there is much work to do to reach the heights that this team appear to be capable of.
