Boys' 1st XI v Shrewsbury

Boys' 1st XI v Shrewsbury

Date: Saturday 15th May

Venue: Away, depart 8.45 am

Team: GRAHAM, IKIN, MURRAL, COSFORD, SANDERSON, JACQUES, BYAS, AMHED, HODSON-WALKER, ELDRED, MOORE

Result: Lost by 85 Runs

Match Report: Shrewsbury 240 all out (50 overs) (Ahmed 4-22), Repton 155 all out.

After losing the toss, to reduce a side of the quality of Shrewsbury to 47-4 was no mean feat. Ahmed did most of the damage with a fantastic spell (7 overs 3-8) with Ikin picking up the other. A century partnership put Shrewsbury back in charge and by then the game was getting away from us after some less accurate bowling spells and some ground fielding errors. A final score of 240 all out (in the last over) was credit to the way they batted but disappointing given our earlier fortunes. Ahmed (4-22) and Cosford (3-40) were the pick of the bowlers.

Unfortunately we were never in the hunt with only Cosford and Jacques making scores of over 20. We struggled for momentum on a slow surface closing on 155 with the final wicket a run out.

This is certainly one of the best teams on the circuit, and out toughest fixture, but we were disappointed to lose by a large margin after the way started the day. More energy in our batting is required when we take on Derbyshire 17's on Tuesday.
