Match Report:
A pleasing win that continues our strong start to the season. After a tough weekend the decision was made to rest one or two player. This gave an opportunity to David Chandler and Declan Blackwood to start their first 1st XI match.
We started strongly and were soon causing John Port problems through Steven Mullen on the right and the strong-running Will Byas up front. It was a combination of these two that brought about the first goal with Byas robbing the defender of posession before being clearly fouled by the same defender as he shaped to shoot in the area. The resulting penalty was hammered home by CHILAKA. The knock received by Byas forced him off the pitch to be replaced by Alex Clarke-Dowson in an unfamiliar role. The change forced us to alter our pattern of play a little which allowed John Port back into the game. They applied some good pressure but lacked the required quality in the final third to trouble our strong defensive line.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Repton always looking the more likely to score. We managed to make it 2-0 as a corner from Chandler sailed over everyone to CLARKE-DOWSON who prodded home at the far post. This settled us down a little and we made it 3-0 when a fantastic ball from Sanderson released CHILAKA, who did the rest. The goalscoring was not finished there as CHILAKA completed an impressive hat-trick with another cool finish. John Port did continue to battle and press and scored a consolation goal with a fine strike from just outside the area.
This was a very impressive performance, particularly in the second half. Several key players have managed to rest before the key matches versus Bradfield and QEGS Blackburn next week and the new players have gained some valuable pitch time and helped to cement their place in the squad.
