Team: GRAHAM, IKIN, MURRALL, COSFORD, SANDERSON, JACQUES, BYAS, FENTON, HODSON-WALKER, ELDRED, MOORE

Result: Won by 50 runs

Match Report:

Repton 252-7 (40 overs) (Ikin 64, Cosford 59), Derbyshire 202-8.

Played on what was a great cricket surface, with pace and carry, 450 runs were scored in this game at a rate of 5.6 per over. This made for some entertaining cricket and 12 sixes were hit during the course of the day.

After a slow start, Jacques (40) and Ikin (64) upped the tempo and we scored 180 runs in the last 20 overs. A tremendous and rapid innings of 59 from Cosford, followed by good tempo innings from Murrall, Eldred and Byas (30 not out from 10 balls) allowed us to reach a score of 252-7. This was something to be pleased with, but more so the fact that we were able to force the pace of the game for long periods, and not sit back and allow the pace of the game to be dictated to us.

Ikin and Byas bowled well with the new ball, and swing was evident from both ends. When Ikin broke the deadlock, Eldred chipped in for his first of the game, before a direct hit from Ikin brought the third from a run out. Cosford and Sanderson both picked up two wickets in the middle with their off-spin, and Ikin picked up a late wicket following a good catch from Fenton.

This was a good win, won primarily though good batting for 30 overs of our innings, but come the challenge of Uppingham on Saturday, the precision and attention to detail that really good teams have will need to be more evident.
