Repton 4-1 Bosworth College
Match Report:
With the School full of illness and injury this was always destined to be a match where the full squad was used. A scrappy start saw both sides find it hard to settle, largely as a result of the impressive work ethic displayed by the two teams. The ball spent much of the time in the midfield apart from one or two lively breaks from Mullen, Duggan and Chilaka. Bosworth had plenty of the ball, and used it well, but often ran into a wall of maroon that was being superbly organised by Andy Evans. We broke the deadlock just before half time as Mullen made a superb break down the right before playing in Sam Graham. Sam couldn't quite get the ball under control and Bosworth couldn't quite clear before Luke DUGGAN arrived to slam home the opener.
A slight reshuffle at half time paid dividends and we took control of the game in the first ten minutes of the second half. A fine through ball from Graham saw Ndu CHILAKA race clear and lob calmly over the onrushing goalkeeper. Minutes later some fine interplay from Duggan and Graham set up Steven MULLEN for his first goal in the maroon. Bosworth were soon back into the game after a terrible error from goalkeeper Jones (in an otherwise impressive performance) saw them pull back to 3-1. We were to have the final word, however, as CHILAKA teased the defence before firing home his 16th goal of the season.
I'm most impressed with the business-like way we went about our task today. Despite being hit by a few pre-match problems we have shown today that we have a large and capable squad. We had to fight hard with the match at 0-0 and then 1-0 for long periods. However, we displayed a resolve and a focus that will serve us well in the coming weeks and months.
