The exhibition, held at the School’s New Court Gallery on Burton Road, showcases the quiet intensity of Ainley’s work, with inspiration drawn from the industrial landscapes fashioned from mining and quarrying.
This is Ainley’s 21st solo exhibition, following hot on the heels of his recent Reservoirs of Darkness exhibition at the Lakeside Arts Centre at Nottingham University last year. He has twice been shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing prize and in 2004 won the Derby City Open Exhibition, and will take part in a group show at Surface Gallery, Nottingham, in March.
Lie of the Land at the New Court Gallery runs from 14th February to 31st March 2011. Opening times are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 2.00pm to 4.30pm, and admission is free. Appointments for viewings outside of these hours can be arranged – contact 07808930141.
Private view will be Wednesday 2nd March, 7.00pm-9.00pm.
