It is wonderful to be able to report that in Lists on the final Friday of the Summer term the Mitre was presented with the Cattley Shield. The Mitre have now won the shield for two consecutive years, having been runners up in 2009.
For me, this is one of the most impressive achievements for the House, and is based on consistency of academic effort across the year from all the girls in the House. It is the one of the few school competitions that includes all members of the House and it is wonderful to see that the work ethos in place throughout the year groups has resulted in such a superb accolade for the Mitre. Many girls from across all five year groups have been gaining straight “1’s” for effort and I hope that many of these will be rewarded with good grades in August for their public examinations. As well as this there has been a significant improvement in the academic effort of a number of girls who have seen effort grades move from “3’s” in their first interims to “1’s”.
The Mitre girls have once again proved their ability to produce the highest level of effort alongside their commitment to sport, drama, music and societies. As well as having a very successful year in all other areas of school life the Mitre is also the highest achieving girl’s House in terms of academic effort, which is a mark of the ability of Mitre girls to give their all in every aspect of school life.
We are very proud indeed of all the girls and especially of being awarded this prize which shows that they have learnt the most valuable lesson of prioritizing and time-management in order to balance extra-curricular life and the all important academic work they need to do in order to achieve their potential. Well done girl’s on a wonderful achievement with which to end a very successful and productive year!
