A new year...but Latham's musicians still dominate

A new year...but Latham's musicians still dominate

Sunday 7th November saw the first trenche of this year's music finals and, as overall reigning House Music champions, everyone's eyes are once again on Latham. Things could not have got off to a better start, however, as Joseph Jankinson retained his Junior Woodwind Cup with a highly assured and engaging performance of the 3rd movement of Mozart's Oboe Concerto in C major. B Blocker Alistair Robson then did a terrific job of opening the Junior Brass section and even though he did not win, the future certainly looks bright with Alistair's clear ability on the trumpet. Affairs took a more contemporary turn in the early evening session as the electric guitar competitions began. Guy Davis stormed to victory in the Junior section with a classic bit of Dire Straits and his achievement was immediately matched by Tom Hume in the Seniors whose own arrangement of Jimmy Hendrix's 'Little Wing' secured him the trophy. This was particularly pleasing for Tom who was unable to defend the Senior Brass trophy which he won last year. The evening concluded with Joseph Jankinson playing Chopin beautifully in the Junior Piano class and although the spoils were not his this time, it had nevertheless been another wonderful day for the musicians of Latham House.
