Repton School mathematicians yesterday took part in the regional heat of the Senior Team Mathematical Challenge and qualified for the National Final to be held in London in February.
The team, who beat 16 other schools and dropped just 13 marks out of a possible 180, consisted of Jichuan Zhang (L6L), Serena Cole (L6F), Katie Fulford (5F) and Jacob Davies (5O). Notably, the competition allows entry to year 13 pupils; making the young Repton team of year 11s and 12s achievement even greater.
Jichuan, Serena, and Arnav Rai (U6P) have also been invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 as a result of scoring over 104 in the Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC). Furthermore, Michael Dodman (U6L), Thomas Hvass (U6O), Winnie Wu (U6A), Liyu Zhang (L6F), Eric Liu (L6S) and Zoe Zhang (L6A) have qualified for the Senior Kangaroo round, again due to their high scores in the SMC.
Repton’s Head of Mathematics, Mr Paul Goodhead commented, ‘It was fantastic to see such high scores all round from the Reptonians who entered the Mathematical Challenge, and particularly impressive for such a young team to win the regional heats. We wish them the best of luck in the upcoming National Finals next year.’
