Repton’s Director of Art exhibits at the Wirksworth Festival

Repton’s Director of Art, Mr Ian Whitfield, is currently exhibiting at the Wirksworth Festival. Ian’s piece, titled ‘The Closure of Open Works’, comprises of two parts, beginning with prose.
Ian, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, began his career at Repton School as an Artist-in-Residence and is no stranger to the Wirksworth Festival.
Ian commented: “For the exhibition I have made an artwork in the form of a piece of fiction with the backstory omitted. It is all about the levels and orders of meaning and expectation present in such a diverse and unique event as the Wirksworth Festival, which traverses craft, fine art and making of all sorts.”
The Wirksworth Festival has been running for over 20 years and brings together the work of over 150 artists. The town, which plays host to the festival every September, acts as both a gallery and a performance venue.
The Wirksworth Festival runs until the 24th September 2017.
