3000m Champions

Latham's bid to retain the House Athletics Trophy got off to a brilliant start on the afternoon of Monday 23rd May. After Fergus Polglase (B Block) came home 5th in the Junior section, George Brockway (O Block) and Josh Noakes (L6) went even better by claiming the Intermediate and Senior crowns. Having won the Junior title last year, George ran a very astute race, sitting in behind the Priory runner for the first five laps. As he sensed the opposition tiring, George moved into fifth gear and finished over 100m ahead. Josh's achievement is just as impressive, keeping in touch with Orchard's Senior Steeplechase winner for the first six laps, before showing his strength of character and fitness on the final lap to come home comfortably. The successes did not stop there, as a number of Lathamites qualified in the 100m, 200m, and 400m whose heats were also held. There is therefore a real sense of excitement and anticipation for the final days of June when we hope it will be the boys in blue and white dominating for a second year running.
