Match Report:

Group stages:

Beat Rugby 16 - 5. Beat Trent 9 - 3. Lost to Greshams 7-8

Despite the freezing weather, we arrived at Oundle raring to go. Our first match was against Rugby (who we are still to play in an inter-school fixture), and we were almost faultless. The play flowed easily from end to end;everybody worked so hard for each other and as a result, Rugby were unable to get the upper hand at any stage. The score-line flatters us rather and does not indicate that are opponents were a worthy side, but Repton simply played an outstanding game. We then went on to play Trent, and were keen to reverse the result from the Midlands finals. As ever, this was a contest that neither school wanted to lose, but we managed to find rhythm, and made fewer mistakes than our opponents (I think that Headmaster can be thanked for that - Trent simply struggled to regain form as they have only just returned from half term, whereas we had had an extra week to get back into full fitness). Our last match was against Greshams. We weren't quite as strong as we had been and struggled to get into the match - Greshams were very quick to intercept balls and fought for any loose balls all the way down the court. The result meant that we came runners up in the group. We then went on to play Greshams again in the Semi-finals, and the match was almost identical (although even more mistakes crept in on our part). That said, the girls were a pleasure to watch and tried so hard to get the win. Similarly to Midlands, we just couldn't quite clinch it. If we have a fault, it is that we can sometimes be so hard on ourselves particularly when under pressure and this can affect our performance....we need to stop being so nice!!!!! Once again, my thanks go to Mrs Jenkinson who so kindly agreed to come along to help with the coaching and umpiring of the side, and also thank you to our trusty supporters who come rain or shine never falter in their support for the team (or in their supply of jaffa cakes!).
